Dr. Michelanne Shields is passionate about caring for all obstetrics and gynecology conditions and providing care for patients at all phases of life. Dr. Shields is excited to build a thriving clinical practice as a full-scope generalist. Her medical interests encompass gynecologic surgery, labor and delivery, clinical medicine, and medical education.

Dr. Shields completed her Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Earth Science at Dartmouth College and earned her MD from Oregon Health & Science University. She then completed her residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Utah.

During her residency, Dr. Shields served as Chief Resident at the University of Utah School of Medicine. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at University of Utah Health. She is thrilled to remain in Utah, where she has an amazing community of mentors and friends who support her professional and personal growth. In her free time, Dr. Shields enjoys skiing, mountain running, and attending shows at Red Butte Garden.

Dr Sheilds is the first woman gynecologist I have ever seen and I feel like I have really missed out. Her history taking was thorough and friendly. Her kindly concern and conversational questions settled my nerves. She cleared up misconceptions I've had for years. I left relieved and happy. Dr. Shields was amazing! She's done so much for me in my first visit with her. She's encourage me to do what I think is best for me and she supported me because I voiced out all the negative effects on the Merina IUD I had. She sympathized with me and she was also great with my 3 year old while I had so much things done at our first visit. I definitely recommend her because she truly is one of the best I have met. Thank you Dr. Shields, I felt so much better and not In so much pain everyday since I saw you!!!

I cannot express how great Dr. Shields was. With a complex history and prior loss I really needed someone to hold my hand through this pregnancy and she was so reassuring and supportive. She listened to me any validated my experience and assured me at any time I could come to her with any concerns. I already feel so much better and I have only met with her once. You can tell she is passionate about her work and I look forward to this journey with her support.

I uber respect Dr. Shields for going out of her way to be personable and make me feel comfortable. This was my first time back to a gynecologist in a long while, and she put me at ease. I also get super frustrated when doctors don't take extra time to explain to me things in a way that I understand and that was surely not the case for Dr. Shields. I give all my respect to people who can explain difficult concepts to people in a way they can learn and understand. That enables and empowers people to make their own educated choices given what they know and understand about their bodies.
